REAL ID in Maryland
Federal REAL ID enforcement began May 7, 2025. A REAL ID-compliant license or acceptable alternative is required for domestic air travel and federal facility access.
Maryland licenses are not automatically REAL ID-compliant. You must request a REAL ID when visiting the DMV.

Maryland uses the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) rather than a DMV. Maryland was an early REAL ID adopter and began issuing compliant licenses in 2013. The MVA offers REAL ID appointments online and has express kiosks for certain transactions at select branch offices.
