REAL ID in Arizona

Federal REAL ID enforcement began May 7, 2025. A REAL ID-compliant license or acceptable alternative is required for domestic air travel and federal facility access.

Arizona licenses are not automatically REAL ID-compliant. You must request a REAL ID when visiting the DMV.

Arizona uses electronic Social Security number verification.

Arizona-Specific Information

Arizona calls its REAL ID the "Travel ID" and issues licenses through the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) under ADOT. Arizona licenses were historically valid until age 65, but Travel ID cards have a shorter renewal cycle. Third-party MVD providers (authorized service locations) can also process REAL ID applications.
